Vegas to the MAX
I'm here for work in Las Vegas attending Adobe's MAX Conference this week. It's my first time to Vegas strangely enough, as I've missed a good 3-4 bachelor parties here, due to racing.
The conference is at the Venetian which is nothing short of an amazing hotel. Scratch that, just about everything on the strip here in Vegas is pretty much amazing. It's sensory overload in every way possible. I'm unfortable just knowing how much money I can spend and/or lose in such a short time here. It's definitely worth the visit, and on the plus side, I've only lost $40 so far on the roulette table (which I plan on making back tonight). By the way, I'm not a gambler.
Gina made the flight out to accompany me (can Vegas be fun when going alone?), so I hope she's not gambling away our life savings as I sit here typing after a class on "Best Practices in Flash Application Development" just finished up. With about four classes each day, it's a full plate of information presented, but it's Adobe (and what was formally known as Macromedia), which is a very smart/techy/cool/fun company.
I was at the MAX conference back in 2004 in New Orleans, and much of what I learned has gone into what you've seen on the Fast48 site. Flash, CSS and XML, among other technologies that have been tested, tried out and used here. One area of focus this year is Flash Video. It's a great way to stream video, and in short – it's largely responsible for driving the huge amount of video content you see on the web today. You should see Flash Video being used here on the site shortly – most notably, the AMA Sports 600 Shootout race, which I just received in the mail from Stephani at the AMA (thanks again Steph).
In any event, I'm off to catch a cab back to the Luxor which is where we're staying. We made the mistake of trying to walk between hotels yesterday; not a good idea as it's a two-mile trip, rather than a two-block trip which it appeared to be on the map we were looking at. With the Tiger's playing tonight, I think we'll try and get into the ESPN Zone to watch game three of the World Series. Go Tigers.
