Monday Morning Grind
The Daytona 200 posed some semi-unexpected results this year. Not that it would have necessarily mattered, but the Honda team had strange mechanical problems that took them out of contention. The rest of the big names (Jason Disalvo and Josh Hayes) were beat by Steve Rapp, Ben Attard and Michael Barnes, who rounded out an all-Pirelli podium; a first that I can remember in AMA Pro Racing. Very cool to see the new Pirellis going the distance, as the knock on the previous tires was that they dropped off relatively quickly compared to the Dunlops.
After the race, you could see Moose and Theresa in the background (from Trackside Racers Supply), definitely happy with the results. It will be interesting to see if they can keep the momentum as the season continues, but I'd say doing well at Daytona is a great start.
As for us, I don't know what it is, but I'm really fired up to get onto the bike and get the season underway. I've always looked forward to the season, but I haven't been this excited for it since probably the 2003 or 2004 season. Last year there were some new variables introduced (new bike, new class, just finished taking a year off, etc.) where I was more preoccupied/nervous than excited. This year I think we're really prepared to make a run to the front and challenge for class championships and hopefully some wins as well. The end result in 2003 was quite good, so hopefully this is a sign of a positive things to come.
