Quiet Times
Not much going on right now. I spent part of Father's Day weekend working on the bike with my dad. Just some minor things, including the fitting and prepping of a new Sharkskinz tail onto the bike, before sending it out to get painted. We also prepped a nearly new gas tank to replace the one currently on the bike, which was also damaged from the Grattan crash.
We then spent Sunday together for Father's Day; my dad, mom and brother (Gina had to work). Talked bikes, watched bikes, and visited both my grandfathers. One of which is about to turn 90 years old and is still as sharp as a tack. My other grandfather however has been in the hospital for 71 days now, battling cancer and a 3rd hip replacement surgery (to put the whole ordeal quite simply). He's more frustrated than ever still being in the hospital (I'd be crawling out of my skin), but remains in as good of spirits as one can in his situation; eager to get the news that he can go home; sooner hopefully rather than later.
We're not racing until the weekend following the 4th of July holiday. My shoulders still aren't 100%, but they're slowly getting better each day. The left shoulder is the worse of the two, primarily just from being bruised and sore. Like most injuries, I can tell it's getting better based on the pain threshold increasing from doing normal day-to-day physical activities. The right shoulder doesn't hurt, but it occasionally "snaps" into position when I move it a certain way. It's a bit odd, feels weird, and is slightly disconcerting - since I had surgery on it roughly two years ago. If it's still happening at the 6 week mark, I'll be back to Ciullo's office. To add to the fun, my left knee isn't black and blue anymore, but it still can't bend all the way. Stupid injuries ..
I have been able to get back into going to the gym and lifting some weights, although it's nothing major considering the shoulders and the fact that it's been nearly a month since I've visited the gym. Evidently my genes aren't made to keep muscle, as I lose it pretty quickly if I don't stick to the "program". You've got to start somewhere though. I've been running, bicycling and adding additional leg exercises to get ready for Nelson Ledges. After a good showing at the beginning of the year there, I really want to take another step and improve from that.
Cheers,
