Good News For Michigan
Good news for Michigan this week. First, Grattan Raceway received a repave of about half the track. My dad, Doug and I went there yesterday for a NESBA event, where my dad was on his new Suzuki SV650 that he's getting ready to race next year. He and Doug got to try out the pavement first hand and both had good things to say about it.
It's a very mild repave in that it's just a thin top-coating of asphalt. It's a nice improvement, but the bumps that existed around the track prior to the repave still exist. I hopped on the SV to do a couple laps and it is nice. It will likely benefit the newer riders the most, as most of us with a lot of laps around Grattan know the best lines and how to manage the different levels of concrete/asphalt that everyone had become accustomed to.
If nothing else, the repave makes half the track surface one consistent level of grip – and that alone is a significant improvement. There were rumors swirling that Sam and the Grattan family may have the other half of the track repaved by the winter, and ready to ride in the spring.
The other good news for Michigan is that it looks like WERA will be racing at Gingerman Raceway in 2008. It's not confirmed yet, but it looks to be finally happening – after three years of WERA trying to get a date there. This is definitely good news for Michigan racers – not to mention guys and gals based out of the Chicago area, who used to ride both Grattan and Gingerman back in the GLRRA days.
