Murphy At Work
Maybe it’s Murphy. Maybe it’s us, but no matter how hard we try to plan ahead, there’s always a last minute time crunch to get things ready for the first race of the season. We had an undertail piece finally arrive yesterday; needing to be mounted and painted. We had the final sponsor stickers come in the same color as the bike (not ideal). We had front disc bolts that would normally be no problem to order, on backorder and now due to arrive today. We had a new rim on the 50 blow a tire tube when mounting the tire.
So at 1:00am this morning, we finished just about everything. The undertail still needs paint, and the tube still needs replacing, but the bike looks good and will be ready for our departure to Pennsylvania this evening.
Back when I was a developer downtown at a company called Rootlevel (one of the famed “dot com” companies that prided itself on bragging how it survived the dot-com bust, but followed suit shortly thereafter), they had a saying – the last 10% takes 90% of the time. It’s all in the details. I think that can be applied to racing as well.
