A Ginger Weekend
I'm laying low this weekend, while my dad and mom are heading to Gingerman for the 4th event on the WERA schedule. With my dad riding as well as he has, I think he'll be able to do pretty well at a track that used to be a local favorite of his. WERA hasn't raced there in years and he very well may have an advantage over some of the competition that will be visiting the track for the first time.
I feel a lot better that Doug and Marion are heading to the track as well, in case he needs anything that my mom can't handle. I've been going back and forth on whether or not I should drive there for added support, but there are things I should be doing at home for once, so it's a chance to save some money and get some things done; plus spend time with the wifey. I'll surely be calling multiple times throughout the day to see how things are progressing with him though. My dad is definitely different than I am in some respects. He will just go out and ride. I'm always focusing on all the little details; setup, tires, the track, etc. He just hops on the bike and goes out there, so he's pretty low maintenance in that regard. However that doesn't change the fact that I'd still like to be there supporting him.
As for the collarbone, the recovery is going really well. I've been doing physical therapy three times a week with constant improvement. I have nearly full range of motion and am already doing strength training exercises with the right shoulder/arm. The area itself is still sore and I still have some bruising on my arm/shoulder, which I thought would have surely gone away by now - five weeks after the incident. Although if I had to give an estimate, I'd say I'm at roughly 65% right now. I have a follow-up appointment with the doc next Thursday, where we'll see if some new x-rays reveal that the bone is healing correctly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I wish I was good enough to go this weekend, but that's just not realistic at this point. Maybe I could tool around if I needed a few points and finish midpack, but I want this thing to heal enough where I don't have to worry about it, and be on the pace from the get-go. I'm hoping that BeaveRun will go exactly like that.
I ran a mile for the first time yesterday and that was pretty tolerable at the time, although my legs felt a little different last night. I couldn't sleep as all the muscles and nerves must have received an abrupt wake up call, keeping me up most of the night. I've got some work to do and needless to say, I'll be hitting the gym for the first time this weekend; just doing lower-body stuff, and then riding the indoor trainer both Saturday and Sunday. I've got to get back to where I was before I hop on the bike for the first time.
I'm also happy to report that as of yesterday, Honda East has reported their 8th bike sale, referred to by us. Eight bike referrals is pretty cool to me, not to mention the accessory/parts sales as well. Honda East recognizes it, which is making this partnership all the more worthwhile for both of us. I'm sure we'll be able to get some more bikes through their doors before the season is over.
That's all I've got now .. I'll have some news/updates next week, including some new and updated pictures of the bike. I'm thinking of changing my number …
Cheers,
