Rain Men
Cold and rainy was the weather today. We mounted rains and even toyed with mounting intermediates at one point – with half the track starting to dry before the clouds opened up again with more rain. We're pitted near Chris Knight, Sherri Trautman (who came to help Chris, even without her son Scott racing), along with Dave, Gary and Doug's RV. Lots of fast national guys here like usual as well.
Practice was uneventful and slow for the most part, as I was just learning which turns around the track went left, and which ones went right. With the poor weather, WERA left it up to the riders to vote on whether they wanted to hold qualifying, or just grid based on previous points. Most riders (including myself) still wanted to qualify and voted to do so, with it beginning around 3:30.
My first qualifying session (600 Superstock) was pretty poor. Slow, wet laps and not much confidence. The second qualifying session (750 Superstock) went much better, as I went 8 seconds faster than I previously had (makes you wonder if I was even turning the throttle in the first qualifying session).
Qualifying still put me in the second half of the grid in terms of lap times, but the laps would have put me in the top 10 if I had done that in the first session. It's something to work on. Overall though, qualifying for the first time wasn't bad. It was more or less just another practice session; at a more focused pace.
After qualifying, we rinsed off the bike (which was pretty dirty) and headed out for some food at a local steakhouse, and now are back at the hotel. Tomorrow will have practice in the morning and then the endurance race after, which we might stick around and watch for a bit.
Probably not much to update tomorrow, but I'll try and throw up something tomorrow night before Sunday's festivities.
Cheers,
- eddie

Hey Rain Man! How did you and Jeff Caco do this weekend?
John
Hey John .. things went from bad to better. The first 3 races were pretty “below average”, but the last race of the day went well. I’ll have a summary up in the next day or so with all the details.
Caco did well from what I saw. He won one of his races (he was the only bike in it :) ). We both were learning the track for the first time under wet conditions. Not really ideal.
Thanks for the post. Like I said, I’ll have more info up shortly.
Thanks.
Good information! I will have bust Caco’s chops on that one. : – )
