Kevin Cameron Quotes
Kevin Cameron has a new book out. Lots of good stuff in it and you'll likely see a handful of quotes from it here. Here's one relative to engines:
"Lack of adequate combustion chamber turbulence is a major reason for soggy midrange in high-rpm engines. In the big ports these engines often have, midrange air intake velocity is low, so the engine lacks the turbulence to burn quickly and efficiently.
In engines with very large bores, short strokes and high compression ratios, the space above the piston near TDC may be too tight for air motion to continue. In such engines, turbulence dies away as the piston nears the head, leading to slow combustion and poor performance. This is a major problem for race engine designers."
I think this is a major reason why the Yamaha R6 now has the variable intake fuel injection system .. specifically in an attempt to avoid the soggy midrange that Kevin is talking about.
