Indy Dealer Show Recap
Our trip to Indy was well worthwhile. The number of exibitors compared to the past couple years was a bit down, but there was still plenty to see and plenty of people to talk to. The convention was partially held in the new Lucas Oil Stadium, which featured a "sportbike" section and all of the knock-off bikes and parts; the sportbike stuff which had a several booths we were interested in, but the knock-off stuff we skipped for the most part.
The Convention Center contained everything else and still took all day to walk through, where we missed some spots that we caught up with on Sunday. Nearly all of our existing sponsors were there, which was the main reason we were there. Doug and Marion (M.C. Designs) provided some great team apparel which we handed out to everyone who's been part of the program this past year and this season going forward. Some of the looks of surprise seemed to show that not many race teams give back to sponsors – even something as simple as what we gave.
Representing Honda East (which also sells Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Aprilia), part of the added benefit was getting into Yamaha's (as misleading as the HE name suggests) dealer's only room to see some product and talk with some of the people from Yamaha. They had a host of OEM stuff, along with a host of Graves parts and some race-prepped bikes. And as you can see above, my dad took full advantage of the spread on-hand (well, we all did really).
Saturday night featured On The Throttle presenting two bands at Radio Radio, a bar downtown and only a mile or so from our hotel. Wade Parish and Pete Cline (current racers) each had a band playing that night. The most unexpected thing was seeing Max McAllister of Traxxion Dynamics up there jamming with Wade's band at one point. Pretty .. different.
Overall, lots of familiar faces. Mark (Rozema) was there, so we were able to catch up a bit. Kevin Hanson (owner of Safety First Racing) was there as well, who I was able to talk to for much of the night. I hadn't talked with him before, but he is an extremely cool guy and before long, we were buying each other Jaeger Bombs, which is always the sign of a good night.
Lots of other mingling and chatting throughout the night as it started to get late. Doug, Joe and I headed home, woke up on Sunday, hit the show again and finished what we didn't get done on Saturday, then headed home. A solid trip and one we will plan on making again next year ..
