One quote worthy of mentioning:
"When I was six or seven years old I used to race motocross with the eleven and twelve year olds at my local club. Being in the fight was much more fun than putting a trophy on the mantle for winning an easy race."
In racing, there's always the debate of whether to sit back as an amateur and do well, or push yourself to the next level of being an expert/pro and face the harder competition. In the end, I think character depicts what decision many people make. Personally, I think it's a lack of character to sit back as an amateur solely to collect trophies and boost one's low level of self confidence; at the expense of bettering their own riding ability by going against stronger competition. In the end, the trophies will come.
