Bayliss and Pirelli Smoking Fast
The combination of Troy Bayliss and Pirelli in World Superbike is turning out to be an extremely fast combination. At recent tests, Bayliss has broken lap records, not to mention nearly dominating the World Superbike series thus far on his factory Ducati. Granted there's the never ending talk of traction control and who has it, who doesn't, and who has the best system for it - but at the beginning of the season, some counted the twin-cylinder machines like the Ducati all but out of contention against the 4-cylinder machines like the GSXR-1000, CBR-1000 and R1's.
The latest news has Bayliss an extremely impressive 39 seconds faster in (race duration) testing at Brno, compared to last year's race time. 39 seconds is huge. Not to mention his individual best lap time was a clear second faster than second-fastest at the test, James Walker.
In the past when the likes of Troy Bayliss, Colin Edwards and Ben Bostrom were in World Superbike, much of their success was tied to having the best tires (Michelin's at the time), compared to everyone else. With the spec-tire rule now in place where every rider is on Pirelli's tires, this is proving a couple things. One, Troy Bayliss knows how to ride a bike; and two, Pirelli is definitely stepping it up in terms of tire development. You can read the entire press release article here for more information.
Cheers.
