BSBK Wins 3-Hour Endurance
In the extremely hot 90+ degree heat of Garrettsville, Ohio, Team Brighton Superbike was able to win their first endurance race of the year at Nelson Ledges this past Saturday. Running with the Fasttrax series, Jim Cottrell, Darren Womack and myself ran the three-hour race with James helping run things in the pits. We finished 1st overall and 1st in the Middleweight class by a 2-lap margin.
Darren and Jim both rode extremely well – especially for riding the bike for the first time. They knocked in quick, consistent laps throughout the entire race. Our biggest challenge was learning how many laps we could get on a tank of fuel. With this being the first endurance race for the R6, we didn't know what to expect once the low fuel light came on.
We initially planned on running three 1-hour stints, but due to the low fuel light coming on early (and us not fully knowing how many more laps we could squeeze out), we had to make one more pit stop than most other teams did, essentially running four 45-minute stints. It all worked out in the end, as we gained some experience with the bike, won the race, and had a great time overall.
