Quick Grattan Recap
The weekend was a bit of a flux of highs and lows. The weekend progressed slowly, but we had a really good morning practice on Sunday where I set some of my quickest times overall, while not pushing too hard. James and my dad were both helpful in pointing out some areas I could work on specifically in each session I went out in. A couple things clicked and I was ready for the races.
The wrench in the plans was the rain that started to fall. I had my best finish of the weekend in the wet B-Superstock 750 race however, finishing 3rd behind Brent Bennett and Jeff Agnes. I kicked myself afterwards for not pushing harder to stick with them, as I rode pretty relaxed throughout the race.
The flipside of the rain issue was that once the track dried, I couldn't get out of "rain mode" and back to pushing the bike and riding aggressively. The end result was slow laptimes and backwards progress from where Sunday morning's practice left off.
I generally like riding in the rain, as I seem to do well in wet conditions. However I just flat out didn't get back up to speed once the track dried. It was a bad race and I'm over it. With plenty of work ahead to go faster, there's no point on dwelling on one race.
Overall the weekend was a lot of fun in terms of the people who were there. It was like a reunion of racers I hadn't seen in awhile. Chad, Niki, Aaron, Wes, Jan and Bob were some of the Witchkraft faces that were all at the track, along with a bunch of other familiar faces. Gina, my mom and brother were there, as well as my dad, James and Rachel. It was really cool to have everyone back at the track again.
More details to come throughout the week …
