The Witchkraft Files – WERA Round 9, Nelson Ledges
By Doug Cornett:
This weekend had a different feel for me. Eddie just needed to place in the 600 Superstock race to seal the deal for that class championship. Our hope to sew up all the championship wins at BeaveRun didn't work out completely because of the DNF. So we came to race with… I don't know… with less urgency? We have been planning and working with a sharp focus all season and now we didn't need it. We never had time to allow what we were accomplishing during the season to sink in. So now I was wondering what was missing? Was it was the single mindedness I find myself in when we are getting the bike ready for Eddie to head out on the track? Nope, not it. That never changes for me. Maybe it was just the end of the season and I was burned out? Nope, not that either. I guess it was that we were there for one race and not to push like we have been. I've been used to pushing and striving and planning and concentrating. Now we didn't need to and it felt different.
I'm really happy and relieved for Eddie that he sold the bike to a pretty interesting rider. Selling a race bike is always a big question mark and I'm glad he was successful in that regard.
So there we are, after the last race on the R6 and I think we are pretty happy for ourselves. We did what we set out to do with just the normal dramas and setbacks everyone enjoys. I'm still letting it soak in.. the whole season… everything Eddie has accomplished as a rider… all the laughs Joe, Eddie, Tom, Aaron, Eric, Garry, Gina, Marion and I had along the way…how we figured out, as a team, the issues and problems that we faced. I'm looking forward to next season already.
Overheard in the Witchkraft Racing pits -
Doug – "That's just not right", as he watches Jeff Wrobel slide on a very frilly hot pink thong over his leathers to head out for a race (he lost a bet).
Eddie – "Oh Jeff ..".
Blake Kelly to Eddie – "Let's go out and crash something."
Sam Gaige to Eddie – "Let's not do 7's, that's too fast, I don't like it." (editor note: He only did low 8's; as if that's slow)
Gina yelling at the front fairing of the sold and soon departing Witchkraft Racing R6 – "He's mine now, all mine! You can't have him anymore!" Eddie had the biggest smile and we all fell about the place laughing.
Everyone to Eddie – "Would you like some time alone with the bike to say goodbye?" (editor note: He did.)
New owner of the R6 while I'm explaining to him the details of what we accomplished with the bike – "Really, you guys did that? Shit, I can hardly wait to get it on the track."
