WERA ‘10, Round 6: Virginia International Raceway (Lessons)
VIR went well, all things considered. Gina, Joe, Matt and myself made the drive down to help. Doug was there and Rob was riding the spare bike after his bike had some mechanical issues. Jeff landed two 4th place finishes, a 5th and a DNF. The DNF was a result of a crash entering the roller-coaster. We were able to get Jeff's bike fixed and out for the last race of the day.
Jeff got into the 31's early in the weekend (without much track time, for this being a National with a 4-hour endurance) but couldn't get out of them after. We tried changes – some that helped and some that didn't. Live and learn. We have some good info for when we go back to VIR next time. Ultimately, we need to do the March VIR event for added track time. Hitting a track once a year like VIR makes it difficult to find a solid setup and go faster. Even still, Jeff did admirably well considering the deep level of talent there. Like me, he wasn't happy though and I can't blame him. We'll regroup for next year with added track time there.
Points currently sit with Jeff leading two classes and being 2nd in two others. All four are up for grabs as we head into the final two regional events of the year at BeaveRun and Nelson. As for me, the hardware comes out Wednesday, so I'm looking forward to that – just a little.
See some photos from the weekend below, as well as some from Matt in our Flickr section of the site.
Thanks to Jeff (www.jeffkovack.com) for the usual round of great photography. Also, we have Sportbike Track Gear as a new sponsor which we're very excited about. We both wanted to get the ball rolling early, thus the addition of them mid-season. I believe this will be a great partnership that will go along with our current sponsors and help everyone further grow. It's great when one sponsor can help another and I believe that's what this new relationship with STG will be. Check them out at www.sportbiketrackgear.com.
Cheers,
Eddie
