Barber and Daytona – 2011 Kickoff
Things are coming along well for the upcoming weekend. Joe, Doug, Marion, Matt, Eric, Brian, Jake (from STG) and I are heading to Barber this weekend to get some laps before the AMA weekend in June. Doug has a new bike and is ready to go racing. Brian has done a complete teardown and rebuild of his bike over this past weekend, which was quite impressive. Jake on the other hand had virtually nothing to do and is scrambling at the last minute to do it. Typical for the young gun. :) Meanwhile, Jeff is doing Daytona this weekend at the AMA's first event. I give Jeff credit. Jumping into the AMA at Daytona is a daunting task, both physically and financially. Although with his positive attitude and ever-ongoing optimism, it'll be hard for him not to do well.
My dad's done a ton of work to get both his and my bike ready for this weekend, as I've had a hard time getting to the shop lately (being sick and having a newborn tends to do that). Pile on his normal job and the influx of suspension work he's taken on lately and he's been pegged at the rev-limiter. He's impressive, as always.
I've been working to get all of the new branded apparel, canopies, chairs, etc. ordered and delivered to everyone. Our stuff is going down to Jeff for Daytona and the rest is heading down to Barber with us. The logistics with multiple team members in various locations around the country, and two different events on the same weekend have been challenging, but will all be worthwhile when we are finally all at the track together.
We're missing Aaron this weekend, but it'll be a good chance to get things setup and try out the bikes on a new track – at least for Joe and I. The lingering thought in the back of my mind is how the wrist will be. Range of motion is about 30%, but the strength has been coming back. How I ride this weekend will really determine what can be done this season. Fingers crossed.
