Pedal and Dirt
Without being able to ride the R6, I've been finding other ways to stay in riding shape. One has been pedaling the mountain bike on the trails. I've hit them pretty hard the past two weekends, riding out 30+ miles each day with some mild elevation, but wide tires and gravel trails seem to make the rides a bit more challenging. The Jamis bike I have is great, but the full suspension is less than ideal for what I'm using it for. It saps out efficiency and adds work, even with the shock locked out, but it's a solid workout.
Each of the last two pedal rides have been followed up with riding on the dirt on Sunday. My dad, brother, Mark (Gonyou) and Aaron (Bagwell) rode this past Sunday. Three of us on XR's with Mark and Aaron on TTR 125's. The red XR in the photo is mine (2003). The white and orange one (1994) is one my dad borrowed from a friend of ours. We found out not too long ago that it's the same bike my dad and I used back in 2003 – doing figure 8's in the backyard throughout the winter getting ready for the upcoming race season. It was a big help to my riding and it showed in that season's results. Since that time, the bike sold to a few different people, with it coming back full circle this weekend. It brought back a flash of memories, seeing it parked in the driveway when dad brought it over. Possibly the funniest thing is that since having three subsequent owners, the title was never changed and is still in my dad's name. Sounds like we've simply just lent the bike out. :)
While the riding has been great, I've been hoping it would help the wrist but so far it's just requiring more motrin than usual. Time I keep saying .. time … and maybe a trip out to California might help.
Cheers.
