Buckered Out in the Land of Buckeyes
Mid-O this past Saturday was a bit less than what I had hoped. I couldn't shake being sick and that seemed to affect my riding. Among my other excuses – new sealer on the track surface, a congested number of riders for the event and not having ridden there in a couple years, I just didn't ride well. With the track being open from 5pm to 8pm for all 50 riders to ride together at the same time, there weren't many clean laps to be had and I was just off, both physically and mentally with this head cold that's been chasing me around. There was one session where I put down a few consecutive clean laps and in those, the lap times dropped consistently each time around. I hoped to drop some more time in my last session of the evening, but a red flag ended things early.
No matter, we pushed through and managed to sort some things out. We have our chassis setup pretty dialed in to keep the tires looking good (we were still on the same tires from Grattan). We had a new set mounted and ready to go, but didn't need them; plus there wasn't enough time to get to them anyway. We also confirmed our gearing for the time being, as well as getting spring rates sorted out. I rode the first few sessions with springs that weren't the right rate and once Joe and Doug changed those out, the bike started feeling much more comfortable.
Other than that, it was good to get out and be at the track. Stymie, Jillian, Nick, Mandy, Ollie and also JB and Jake (Teutsch) were all there, which made for a good time. There wasn't enough track time, but for shaking off the rust around Mid-O and just turning some laps, it was well worth the trip – even if we didn't get home until 2:30 in the morning :). I do need to get back there though and work on some things, as I'm quite a bit off my previous best lap times.
We had the GoPro's working for the first time and I'll get some video up shortly of that. Doug also fitted up our new brake-lever guards to both the R6 and the SV, which you see in the above photo. It's a very clean and lightweight design. I like them so far. Thanks to Chuck Giachetto at Performance Cycleworx (Crew Chief for Dane Westby) who makes those.
GoPro video from Mid-O to come shortly ..

I’m very impressed with the new Pirellis – so far. We need to eval them on a sun baked track with a 90deg day. That means heading south before the next round. ; )
Good call Doug. :)
