Nelson Safety Fund Wrap Up / Quote
We raised over $4000 for Nelson Ledges, quadrupling our initial goal of $1000. There was huge support from people across the racing community, except for the few "National" riders who voiced their opinions loudest and refused to race. I'm not sure if those riders feel they're "above" contributing or what; I hope not. A number of AMA riders contribute to the air fence fund and donate money in other ways to support safety at tracks we visit. At least they back up their concern with more than just refusing to ride.
On the other side of things, I talked to Scott Lane yesterday, President of Nelson Ledges, to iron out details on how to get the money to him. He stated they've already started working on increasing runoff and doing work to further improve the specific areas of concern. It won't happen overnight, but it's good to see they're already making the effort necessary for track improvements.
As for the quote, when the money was coming in, one letter was attached that I thought was pretty cool. It goes out to anyone who donated money to the fund:
"You are doing a wonderful thing. Just think, some day you may save someone's life."
I never thought of it like that. Who knows, he might be right. If nothing else, people banded together for a good cause.
